This is my painting, Surely Morely. I love the rhythm and bounce of those words, and I also love what they mean - the inevitability of something more to come.
It always seems to be that there's a continual reaching for more - a wired-in, irrepressible desire to keep trying and seeking and finding.
My painting, Surely Morely plays with those feelings of striving within and searching without. Do you see how the figures balance upon and teeter toward and stretch and lean into one another? There's a hope for the whole and a synchronicity in their searching. Each is active in their own right, but there's a unity and coordination - a feeling of accord, a generosity of attention.
Experience tells me we don't do our seeking and finding alone - we need each other to propel and sustain and bolster - we are each the why and the how and the who and the when of every more that we wish for ourselves and the ones we love.
